b 1952, North Shields
Some people were put on this earth to paint. His mother has said that Anthony was born clutching a brush. For many years he created art for personal enjoyment only, then in the early 1990’s he began to exhibit his work, achieving acclaim and commercial success.
Anthony developed artistic skills by studying and understanding his significant art influences: Bonnard and Cezanne through to the Scottish Colourists; David Hockney, Leonard Rosoman and a host of other important Royal Academians all inspire alongside the brilliant and somewhat unexpected, Marvel comics artist, Bill Sienkiewicz.
Well loved and collected in the North of England, Anthony's work can be found in many homes and businesses from Yorkshire to Scotland, including the University of Northumbria; while he counts among his private collectors, The Duke and Duchess of Northumberland.
In March 2003 Anthony travelled to Berlin with members of the Newcastle-Gateshead arts initiative to represent the Northeast at the tourism convention and completed a painting of Tyneside which was filmed and broadcast on television.
Anthony acknowledges a degree of autism in his make-up, he also has two autistic adult sons who require a great deal of care and attention, which he and his wife give tirelessly. It is highly possible that Anthony’s position on the spectrum contributes to the way he seems to think in colour and sees his surroundings so vividly.
With this dedication to his family in mind, Anthony somehow continues to paint and exhibit more or less continuously; he also demonstrates and teaches in local art groups.
